An opensource surgical N95 respirator with a flexible, customizable fit that can be cut & sewn, 3D printed or even folded from Tyvek.
SUMMARY
In March of 2020, I developed an initial prototype for a reusable, surgical N95 respirator designed for healthcare workers and first responders. PPE shortages were a global problem and contributed to the spread of the virus. The version I developed is a completely novel design that reduces the amount of filter material and uses a completely different supply chain. The project is ongoing, open source and has been funded by the federal government and an EU research fund.
