Stretching Sound
A musical instrument that explores the properties of piezoresistive fabric.
I built this instrument in 2015 while at CCRMA for the "Designing Physical Interactions for Music" workshop. I used piezoresistive fabric and attached strips of it to analog inputs on an Arduino Uno. The fabric acts as a variable resistor and the instrument is played by slowly pulling the fabric bands. The changing resistance values were is fed into Max/MSP over serial and triggered harmonic overtones. David Bourgin provided the sounds for this piece and the software in Max.
